Grad Planning-Class of 2021

Dear HHSS Class of 2021 and Parents/Guardians,

I hope that this letter finds everyone safe and well during this latest round of L@H and the provincial Stay At Home Order. It is incredible how quickly the year has gone by as we are about to begin planning for our last octomester together. The entire Hal High staff is proud of how our students have performed under this difficult set of circumstances we continue to face. Our students have demonstrated resilience and resolve.

This letter is intended to provide a general update on the plans for the culmination of our graduates’ last year of high school, and our respective HHSS graduation plans, as our graduation committee has been hard at work for a number of weeks now.

Key graduation information is regularly shared with students through the Google classroom – Graduating Class of 2021. Grads should ensure that they monitor and check the classroom regularly. Already, our grads have made nominations for Valedictorian, have been messaged regarding awards and scholarships, and have been encouraged to express interest in being considered for one of the many HHSS Scholarships and Awards.

Planning Updates:

  1. Grad Celebrations

The HHSS graduation committee has been planning this year’s graduation, given the guidelines provided by our school board (TLDSB) and our local Health Unit (HKPR DHU), and in alignment with provincial restrictions currently in place.  Our mission is to keep our school community safe.

As you are aware, TLDSB schools are currently closed. In the event that they were to re-open, they would continue to be closed to non-students and staff. Accordingly, we will again be celebrating our Graduates through a Virtual Graduation Celebration on Tuesday June 29th, 2021 at 8:00 pm. We hope that our graduates will also be able to do a safe diploma pick-up on Tuesday June 29th (spread over the afternoon and early evening) as well, but this will need to be confirmed at a later date, when provincial and public health unit orders are known.

  1. Graduation Photos

Unfortunately our initial dates (scheduled for April 26-30th) had to be cancelled due to the Stay at Home Order, but we have another set of dates aside for the week of June 7-11th, through Edge Imaging, providing that we are returned to in-person learning.

In the event that students do not return, but the Stay At Home Order is lifted, pending Board approval, we have a possible procedure to allow for outdoor grad pictures through Edge Imaging as well.

We will continue to update our graduates and families on graduation plans and photos and our HHSS staff will do its best to provide wonderful celebrations of the accomplishments of the Graduating Class of 2021.

Sincerely,

Chris Boulay, Principal
