Letter from the director of education to TLDSB families: Attendance Matters – September 2025

Dear TLDSB parents/guardians and staff,

On behalf of the entire school administration, senior leadership team, and Board of Trustees, we extend our sincerest gratitude for the support you have given for a successful start to the 2025-2026 school year.

School is much more than just a place of learning; it is an environment where essential foundations for a successful future are formed. Schools provide a place to forge connections and learn the skills of collaboration, empathy, and communication. It’s also a place where a structured routine begins, and that includes regularly attending school.

We strongly believe that regular attendance has a positive impact on student development and academic progress. As many of you may recall from my letters last year, I regularly monitor attendance rates of students across all Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) schools. After two weeks of school, I am thrilled to share that attendance rates have been positive with 81 percent of elementary students attending school 90 percent of the time, and 73 percent of secondary students attending school 90 percent of the time. While these attendance rates are a positive start to the school year, we are committed to supporting all of our students to attend at least 90 percent of the time.

At all TLDSB school’s, staff are deeply committed to the well-being and success of every child. If you need help with supporting your child(ren)’s attendance, reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher, a guidance counselor, the principal, or another caring individual at school – they are all ready to help.

Thank you once again for continuing to support regular student attendance.

Sincerely

Wes Hahn,
Director of Education, Trillium Lakelands District School Board
