Food for Kids (and Families)

Food For Kids is Haliburton County’s Student Nutrition Program ensuring that our public school children have access to nutritious food offered in a non stigmatized and universally accessible environment. Typically this program is offered within a school environment, currently schools are closed and by default children have been unable to access the foods that are funded by the MCCSS, Breakfast Clubs of Canada, PCCC and locally donated funds. In response to the challenges of the Covid-19 virus our efforts are focused on ensuring the wellbeing of Haliburton’s youth and to address hunger and poverty within this difficult time where many families are experiencing job loss and business closures.

Food For Kids is redirecting the funding that we receive to existing food sources within the community to enhance the quantity and nutritional value of food for families with children, these sources include the Minden Food Bank, The 4c’s Food Bank in Haliburton, the Central Food Network in Highlands East and Sirch Community Services in Haliburton. Families that have difficulty accessing these services may also contact Point In Time Center for Youth and Families and they can provide grocery gift cards based upon each families unique needs and challenges. This enhancement funding is revolving as needed to best support the families of Haliburton County.
